New house
The clients wanted a new house - with a decorative and productive garden - for their later retirement years. They wanted space for family and friends to stay.
We designed-in accessibility to future-proof changes in their personal mobility. The owners are keen cooks and the kitchen was a focal point. An informal living room is alongside the kitchen and open outs to a large, sunny deck with expansive views of Mt Kaukau and the vegetated suburb.
Horizontal and vertical cedar weatherboards, and timber windows provide contrast within the simple gabled roof forms. Recycled Matai flooring and Rimu trims and doors create warmth in the interiors.
They say:
"We have enjoyed having friends come and visit, including some staying overnight. The house works very well for us this way... I asked him if he could think of anything, he would like different in the kitchen. A resounding ‘No’ was satisfying for both of us."
"We have been very lucky with our architects and builders, all of whom have collaborated to make this whole process as stress free as possible".
