New house
From the air, this new house resembles a tiny hill-side town. The owners wanted a layout to provide flexible use.
The northern wing houses the entrance gallery and living, cooking and dining spaces with a country-scaled larder. The plastered, deep, highly insulated walls create a solid and welcoming ambience. The southern wing includes service areas, a den/office and further bedrooms to accommodate visitors, friends and family in large and small groups. The upper southern wing is clad as a red-shed, like the barn/workshop around the corner. The two wings hinge around a central courtyard.
The lofty gallery entrance door leads into light-filled spaces, with contrasting with between the plastered concrete. Modulated windows in the glazed link way and other spaces frame the spectacular views of the Central Otago hills.
